RECOGNIZING aLIAMANU middle school, central middle school, and waimea high school AS THE 2001-2002 BLUE RIBBON SCHOOLS BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Education honors the nation's most successful schools for excellence in teaching and instruction, student achievement, leadership, and parental involvement by awarding them recognition as a Blue Ribbon Schools; and
WHEREAS, Blue Ribbon Schools demonstrate excellence through challenging academic standards and a rigorous curriculum for all students; a disciplined, supportive, safe, and drug-free environment; participatory leadership and a strong partnership among the family, school, and community; excellent teaching in a school environment that strengthens teacher skills; and low dropout rates and documented student achievement; and
WHEREAS, three outstanding Hawaii schools, ALIAMANU MIDDLE SCHOOL, CENTRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL, and WAIMEA HIGH SCHOOL have been honored as 2001-2002 Blue Ribbon Schools for their superior efforts in the educational development of their students; and
WHEREAS, since 1958, ALIAMANU MIDDLE SCHOOL has displayed a strong commitment to educational excellence and has upheld its philosophy that each student become a successful life-long learner who makes a positive contribution in their community; and
WHEREAS, CENTRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL helps youth seek and strive for intellectual growth and physical development, to respect themselves and others, to become life-long learners, and provide quality instruction and caring guidance in a safe, caring environment; and
WHEREAS, WAIMEA HIGH SCHOOL has emphasized a long-standing tradition of providing a safe environment for students to learn, grow, and achieve in a rich family atmosphere which encourages students to become responsible and productive citizens that respect and value themselves and others; and
WHEREAS, ALIAMANU MIDDLE SCHOOL, CENTRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL, and WAIMEA HIGH SCHOOL rely on partnership with parents, teachers, businesses, social agencies, and communities to raise the learning standards of their students, which is a key ingredient of academic excellence; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, that this body hereby recognizes and congratulates ALIAMANU MIDDLE SCHOOL, CENTRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL, and WAIMEA HIGH SCHOOL for their exemplary initiatives and successes and for being named the 2001-2002 Blue Ribbon Schools by the United States Department of Education, and extends to all of its students, parents, faculty, and administrators, its warmest
