HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

HONORING THE YWCA OF O'AHU SILVER ANNIVERSARY LEADERLUNCHEON HONOREES SANDRA AU FONG, CAROLINE WARD ODA, NALANI OLDS, AMERICAN SAVINGS BANK AND KNDI RADIO.

 

 

WHEREAS, the YWCA of O'ahu LeaderLuncheon is the largest event of the year in Hawai`i to honor women and organizations that exemplify the mission of the YWCA to enrich and empower the lives of women and their families, and, in addition, individual excellence as role models and contributions to the community and, further, organizations are chosen for their exemplary service to women and their organizational and employment policies and initiatives that have enhanced the lives of their women employees and their families; and

WHEREAS, SANDRA AU FONG has been an active business leader in her support of the renovating and expanding of Market City Shopping Center and in restoring and leasing the Historic Kress Building in downtown Hilo, and as a community leader helping to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charitable organizations in Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, CAROLINE WARD ODA has demonstrated community leadership in advocating for women and children at the state, national, and international levels, as well as guiding the students of St. Andrew's Priory to fulfill the vision of Queen Emma; and

WHEREAS, NALANI OLDS has used her talents to share and perpetuate Hawaiian values and heritage with people all over the world, including students, tourists, and those in prison, founded the Prince Lot Hula Festival, and established educational programs; and

WHEREAS, AMERICAN SAVINGS BANK has distinguished itself in the community with its work environment that nurtures employee growth and its programs that help advance and empower women, minorities, and the community at large; and

WHEREAS, KNDI RADIO has made a commitment to multicultural and multiethnic radio programs on cultural, community and educational topics, providing an invaluable resource to the local Asian and Pacific communities, especially immigrants with limited English proficiency; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, that this body hereby commends SANDRA AU FONG, CAROLINE WARD ODA, NALANI OLDS, AMERICAN SAVINGS BANK, AND KNDI RADIO for their success and community service to the people of Hawaii, congratulates them upon being recognized as inductees to the Academy of Honorees of the YWCA of O'ahu, and extends to them its warmest ALOHA and best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to SANDRA AU FONG, CAROLINE WARD ODA, NALANI OLDS, and the representatives of AMERICAN SAVINGS BANK and KNDI RADIO.
