HONORING THE 2002 HAWAII SCIENCE BOWL CHAMPIONS.
WHEREAS, in 1991, the U.S. Department of Energy developed the National Science Bowl to encourage high school students from across the nation to excel in math and science and to pursue careers in those fields; and
WHEREAS, the National Science Bowl—and its preliminary, the Hawaii Science Bowl—provides the students, and teachers who have prepared them, a forum to receive state and national recognition for their talent and hard work; and
WHEREAS, the National Science Bowl is an academic competition among teams of high school students who answer questions on astronomy, biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, earth, computer, and general science; and
WHEREAS, regional/state tournaments are held from January to March each year, and the winning team from each regional/state competition receives a trip to Washington, D.C. for the National finals in May; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, that this body hereby congratulates Maui High School students Matthew Jachowski, Nicholas Jachowski, Christian Ling, Christopher Ling, and Jonathan Nguyen; and their advisor Edwin Ginoza, for winning the 2002 Hawaii Science Bowl and wishes them continued success at the 2002 National Science Bowl and in all their future endeavors.
