HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

CONGRATULATING the 24th annual MISS CHINATOWN HAWAII SCHOLARSHIP PAGEaNT.

 

 

WHEREAS, the Legislature finds that the 2002 Miss Chinatown Hawaii Scholarship Pageant Court members, Queen Janna Marie Gum, First Princess Chun Hui Chen, Second Princess Doris Gar Lum, and Executive Pageant Director Paul Chun, are Goodwill Ambassadors both within the State of Hawaii and in China for the duration of their reign and service; and

WHEREAS, the pageant is sponsored by the Chinatown Merchants Association and is one of the most prestigious ethnic pageants in Hawaii, which serves to promote participation in the cultural life of our community by residents of Chinese ancestry; and

WHEREAS, the pageant serves to exhibit Chinese culture to people of all ethnic background in the community and seeks to foster and link the present with the past, while striving to perpetuate Chinese tradition, values, heritage and, thereby, adding to the cultural richness of Hawaii; and now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002 hereby extends its heartfelt congratulations and aloha to the 24th Miss Chinatown Hawaii Scholarship Pageant Queen Janna Marie Gum, First Princess Chun Hui Chen, Second Princess Doris Gar Lum, and Pageant Executive Director Paul Chun and wishes them an exhilarating, memorable experience and personal growth.
