HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING NISSAN HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL HALL OF HONOR ON THEIR 20TH ANNIVERSARY.

 

 

WHEREAS, the NISSAN HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL HALL OF HONOR was established in 1982 by Nissan Motor Corporation in Hawaii, Ltd. to recognize the accomplishments of high school athletes throughout the State of Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, inductees are chosen by a 16-member selection committee based not only on their athletic accomplishments, but their character and behavior, on and off the field, academic achievements, community involvement, and participation in school activities outside of sports; and

WHEREAS, since its inception, 228 young men and women from 44 schools have been inducted into the NISSAN HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL HALL OF HONOR; and

WHEREAS, each honoree receives a Hall of Honor commemorative ring, certificate of membership, and a $2,000 college scholarship; and

WHEREAS, many of those who have been inducted into the NISSAN HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL HALL OF HONOR have gone on to pursue outstanding collegiate careers and become outstanding individuals in our community such as Alika Smith, Timothy Chang, Melanie Azama, Garret Gabriel, Jarrin Akana, Reydan "Tita" Ahuna and Benny Agbayani; and

WHEREAS, the NISSAN HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL HALL OF HONOR will celebrate its 20th anniversary recognizing outstanding student athletes in Hawaii; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, that this body hereby commends and congratulates the

NISSAN HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL HALL OF HONOR on its 20th anniversary, and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
