A BILL FOR AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR CHORE SERVICES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chore services is a program under the adult and community services branch of the social services division of the department of human services. The chore services program pays minimum wages to workers who assist recipients with household maintenance and the like. These recipients are generally the dependent, disabled adults. The program aims to provide chore services in order to prevent inappropriate institutionalization, thus saving the state moneys in the long run.
The purpose of this Act is to make an appropriation for chore services.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $689,503, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2002-2003, for the chore services program (HMS 601 TA) under the adult and community services branch.
SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of human services for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2002.
