HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.B. NO.

2679

TWENTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE, 2002

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR 24-HOUR AMBULANCE SERVICE IN KULA.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that Kula is an aging community whose current residents are either retired and/or nearing their retirement years, a demographic requiring more emergency ambulatory services. Because of Kula's remote location and distance from Maui Memorial Hospital, travel time from the nearest 24-hour ambulance service is a grave concern to its residents and could mean the difference between life and death. The purpose of this Act is to provide twenty-four-hour advanced life support ambulance services to the growing community of Kula and "upcountry Maui".

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2002-2003, to provide twenty-four-hour advanced life support ambulance services for the community of Kula and "upcountry Maui".

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of health for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2002.
