A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to principals and vice-principals.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 302A-605, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

"§302A-605 Principals and vice-principals. (a) Principals and vice-principals shall meet the department's certification requirements and shall have served as a teacher for a period of not less than five years.

(b) All principals and vice-principals employed after the effective date of this Act shall be twelve month employees. All principals and vice-principals employed on September 1, 2001 may make an election to convert from a nine-month to a twelve-month employee. This election shall be made by December 30, 2002 and shall be final."

SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
