A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO nomination of governor and selection OF LIEUTENANT GOVErNOR running mate.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 11, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§11- Governor, lieutenant governor; nominations. (a)

Within 10 days of winning a nomination for governor, each candidate shall submit, in writing, to the Office of Elections, the name of the individual to be placed on the ballot for lieutenant governor as their running mate.

(b) Each lieutenant governor nominee selected as a running mate shall be of the same political party as their gubernatorial nominee.

(c) Each lieutenant governor nominee shall meet all the requirements as set forth in Article V, Section 2 of the Constitution of the State of Hawaii."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval and upon ratification of a constitutional amendment requiring the election of the attorney general.
