AGENDA:

In order for the State to develop and  nurture a high tech industry and diversify its
economy, it must have a  first-rate  engineering  college.  An informational briefing
will be held to discuss the need,  plans  and requirements for "Building a First Rate
College of Engineering"  at  the  University  of  Hawaii  and  the development of the
College's Hawaii  Center  for  Advanced  Communications.    The  State Administration
recently proposed $1  million  for  the  Center.    The  goals  of the Center include
expanding industrial and academic  collaboration; providing engineering students with
a  rich  and   diversified   education   to   prepare   them   for   careers  in  the
telecommunications industry and  academia;  promoting entrepreneurial activities; and
providing technical leadership and expertise  to  the University and State of Hawaii.
Dean Chen and the panel will address the College's vision, needs, plans and programs.

Dr. Dean  Smith,  Senior  Vice  President/Executive  Vice  Chancellor,  University of
Hawaii;

Dr. Wai-Fah Chen, Dean, College of Engineering;

Mr. Tareq Hogue, President, Adtech, Inc.;

Dr.  Anthony  Kuh,  Professor,  Chairperson,  Department  of  Electrical Engineering,
College of Engineering;  and

Mr. "Wen" Nguyen Phan,  Undergraduate  student, Department of Electrical Engineering,
College of Engineering.
