Sir:

     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No.
2243, H.D. 1, entitled: 

     "A BILL FOR AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR VETERANS
     CEMETERIES,"

begs leave to report as follows:

     The purpose of this bill is to appropriate funds for the
maintenance of veterans cemeteries in the counties of Hawaii,
Kauai, and Maui.

     The Department of Parks and Recreation of the County of
Hawaii, a member of the Hawaii County Council, Hawaii Island
Veterans Memorial Inc., and numerous individuals testified in
support of this bill.  The Office of Veterans Services (OVS)
testified that it supports the bill if it does not adversely
affect priorities indicated in the Executive Supplementary
Budget.  OVS suggested changes to the bill.

     Your Committee has amended this bill by:

     (1)  Reducing the dollar amount of each appropriation to $1;
          and

     (2)  Making technical, nonsubstantive changes for purposes
          of consistency and style.

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your

Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No.
2243, H.D. 1, as amended herein, and recommends that it pass
Third Reading in the form attached hereto as H.B. No. 2243, H.D.
