                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE AIEA HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS ON WINNING THE
   NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.



 1       WHEREAS, student participation in athletic competition, a
 2   fundamental component of the physical, mental, and emotional
 3   development of our youth, fosters perseverance, encourages
 4   fellowship, and instills good sportsmanship into the character
 5   of Hawaii's future leaders; and
 6   
 7       WHEREAS, regarded as the most prestigious event and
 8   featuring 250 squads with over 4,000 participants entered in 13
 9   team divisions, the National Cheerleading Association High
10   School Championship was held in Dallas, Texas, on December 28
11   and 29, 1999; and
12   
13       WHEREAS, selected to compete by invitation only, the AIEA
14   HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS earned their bid to enter the national
15   competition by winning "Top Team" and numerous other team
16   awards at a summer camp in July 1999; and
17   
18       WHEREAS, competing against 25 teams, the AIEA HIGH SCHOOL
19   CHEERLEADERS dazzled judges with a two-minute routine that
20   included a dance sequence, pyramid stunts, and the entire squad
21   doing acrobatic flips in unison, capturing the National
22   Championship title in the Small Co-ed Division; and
23   
24       WHEREAS, by rising to the challenge to seize the national
25   title, the AIEA HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS received a 4-foot
26   trophy, a championship banner, letterman jackets, and gift
27   certificates to be used for merchandise or apparel; now,

 1       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
 2   Twentieth Legislature of the State Hawaii, Regular Session of
 3   2000, that this body hereby congratulates and honors the AIEA
 4   HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS:  Mike Adachi, John Angon, Dain Azumi,
 5   Jennifer Coronas, Matthew Cuyno, Denise Ejercito, Tasha
 6   Firestone, Elizabeth Fujii, Rachel Godinet, Cathy Goulet, Keala
 7   Hopkins, Tianna Moniz, Philbroux Richardson, Christin Sumida,
 8   Narissa Uehara, Ryan Vogelgesang, and their coaches Liz Godinet
 9   and Kathy Moniz and families on winning the National
10   Championship in the Small Co-ed Division, and extends to them
11   its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all
12   future endeavors.
