                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

HONORING SHARON NAKAGAWA FOR BEING NAMED THE 1999 HAWAII NATIONAL
   DISTINGUISHED PRINCIPAL.



 1       WHEREAS, in recognition of their strength of character,
 2   ability to enmesh the school in the community, and a passion
 3   for motivating students to achieve, each year an extraordinary
 4   elementary school principal from every state is honored by the
 5   United States Department of Education and the National
 6   Association of Elementary School Principals (Association); and 
 7   
 8       WHEREAS, recognized by the Association through its local
 9   affiliate, the Hawaii Elementary and Middle School
10   Administrators' Association for her consistent display of
11   extraordinary devotion and quality service, SHARON NAKAGAWA,
12   Principal of Waialua Elementary School, has been named as the
13   1999 Hawaii National Distinguished Principal; and 
14   
15       WHEREAS, SHARON NAKAGAWA has exhibited exceptional
16   expertise in both education and administration by securing
17   grants; developing innovative programs such as the Academies,
18   which promotes theme-based experiential education and supports
19   computer and technology competence to the extent that Waialua
20   Elementary was named a National Networked Model School;
21   encouraging faculty development to implement the programs; and
22   incorporating parents as vital participants in the school's
24   
25       WHEREAS, under the leadership of SHARON NAKAGAWA, Waialua
26   Elementary School has become a successful learning environment,
27   encouraging and coordinating contributions by teachers,
28   faculty, parents, and the community, resulting in a resource
29   network linking students and their interests to a broader
30   spectrum; and
31   
32       WHEREAS, SHARON NAKAGAWA has become a mainstay of academic
33   excellence and a model of inspiration to her students,
34   teachers, and fellow administrators; now, therefore,

 1       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
 2   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
 3   of 2000, that this body hereby honors SHARON NAKAGAWA for her
 4   outstanding achievements and commitment to educational
 5   excellence, and extends to her its warmest aloha and best
 6   wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
