                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE FORTY-EIGHTH ANNUAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL AND
   CONGRATULATING VAIL SOYO MATSUMOTO AS THE 2000 CHERRY
   BLOSSOM QUEEN, MEMBERS OF HER COURT, AND FESTIVAL
   ORGANIZERS.



 1       WHEREAS, on Saturday, March 25, 2000, VAIL SOYO MATSUMOTO
 2   was chosen as the 2000 Cherry Blossom Queen of the Forty-eighth
 3   Annual Cherry Blossom Festival, sponsored by the Honolulu
 4   Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce; and
 5   
 6       WHEREAS, a 1992 graduate of Mid-Pacific Institute, VAIL
 7   SOYO MATSUMOTO received a bachelor's degree in English
 8   education from Southern Illinois University and a master's
 9   degree in educational foundations from the University of Hawaii
10   at Manoa, currently teaches English at Waipahu High School, and
11   hopes to achieve a doctorate and to teach at a university; and
12   
13       WHEREAS, VAIL SOYO MATSUMOTO possesses timeless, yet,
14   fragile beauty of the cherry blossom, appreciates and respects
15   the values of her culture, and serves to honor her parents and
16   her heritage; and
17   
18       WHEREAS, Queen VAIL SOYO MATSUMOTO is honored to have as
19   members of her Court, First Princess Neysa Dee Park, Princesses
20   Sheri Reiko Sakagawa, Vicky Ayako Toma, and Shirley Yamauchi,
21   Miss Congeniality, and Miss Popularity Shelliann Aiko Kawamoto;
22   and 
23   
24       WHEREAS, the Cherry Blossom Festival, one of the oldest,
25   non-interrupted ethnic celebrations in Hawaii, serves to
26   illuminate, enlighten, and enrich various aspects of Japanese
27   culture and culminates in the coronation of the Queen and her
28   Court, and was successfully guided by the Fiftieth Honolulu
29   Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce President Leo R. Asuncion,
30   Jr. and the Forty-eighth Cherry Blossom Festival General Chair
31   Michael S. Inouye; now, therefore,

 1       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
 2   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
 3   of 2000, that this body hereby recognizes the Forty-eighth
 4   Annual Cherry Blossom Festival, congratulates VAIL SOYO
 5   MATSUMOTO as the 2000 Cherry Blossom Queen, members of her
 6   Court, other contestants of achieved distinctions, and the
 7   Festival organizers, and extends to all of them its warmest
 8   aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future
 9   endeavors.
