                     HOUSE CONCURRENT
                        RESOLUTION
REQUESTING THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION STUDY THE
   IMPLICATIONS OF SETTING COACHES' SALARIES IN THE SAME MANNER
   AS OTHER TEACHERS.



 1       WHEREAS, the athletic program, being an integral part of
 2   the school curriculum, should consider setting coaches'
 3   salaries in the same manner as other teachers; and  
 4   
 5       WHEREAS, coaches work load, interaction with the students,
 6   and role in the school curriculum should be viewed as equal to
 7   that of other teachers; now, therefore
 8   
 9       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
10   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
11   of 2000, the Senate concurring, that the Department of
12   Education study the implications of setting coaches' salaries
13   in the same manner as other teachers and increasing coaches'
14   salaries in the same manner as A-Plus site supervisors and
15   drivers education instructors; and
16   
17       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Education
18   submit the findings and recommendations from the study to the
19   Legislature thirty days prior to the convening of the Regular
20   Session 2001; and
21   
22       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this
23   concurrent resolution be transmitted to the Superintendent of
24   Education.
