PUC Consumer Complaints


DESCRIPTION:
Clarifies the responsibilities of the consumer advocate and the
Public Utilities Commission (PUC) with respect to receiving
consumer complaints about public utilities and counseling

                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 269-55, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended to read as follows:
 
 3      "[[]�269-55[]]  Handling of complaints.  The consumer
 
 4 advocate shall counsel utility customers in the handling of
 
 5 consumer complaints before the public utilities commission.  The
 
 6 public utilities commission shall provide a central clearing
 
 7 house of information by collecting and compiling all consumer
 
 8 complaints and inquiries concerning public utilities [and shall
 
 9 monitor the handling of consumer complaints by the public
 
10 utilities commission]."
 
11      SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed.
 
12 New statutory material is underscored.
 
13      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
