David Lassner, Director of Information  Technology Services at the University of
Hawaii, will provide an  overview  of  the  University of Hawaii's progress with
informational technology,  and  the  major  remaining  challenges,  and specific
activities  which  support  the  diversification  of  Hawaii's  economy  and the
development of information industries within  the  State.  The presentation will
also  cover  the  general  support  of  knowledge  based  industries,  workforce
development, and advances in Internet connectivity for Hawaii.

THE STATUS OF Y2K COMPLIANCE  ON  THE  PART  OF STATE GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS AND
AGENCIES.

Formal presentations will be made by:

   1.    The  Department  of  Accounting  and  Finance  Service.    (The  agency
         responsible to coordinate the Y2K compliance effort in the state).
   2.    Department of Transportation.
   3.    Department of Human Services.
   4.    Department of Public Safety.
   5.    Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
   6.    Department of Defense (State Civil Defense).
   7.    The Gartner Group (The state's Y2K compliance consultant.).

    DAGS  will  summarize   the   status   of   state   departments  not  making
presentations.

    (Note: A progress report was submitted  to the legislature by the Department
of Accounting and General Services in November 1998, in compliance with Act 213,

SB 1017  RELATING TO STATUTORY REVISION:  AMENDING, REENACTING, OR
         REPEALING VARIOUS PROVISIONS  OF  THE  HAWAII  REVISED STATUTES AND THE
         SESSION LAWS  OF  HAWAII  FOR  THE  PURPOSE  OF  CORRECTING  ERRORS AND
         REFERENCES CLARIFYING LANGUAGE  AND  DELETING  OBSOLETE AND UNNECESSARY
         PROVISIONS.                                                         JHA
         Amends, reenacts, or repeals  various  provisions of the Hawaii Revised
         Statutes and the Session Laws  of  Hawaii for the purpose of correcting
         errors and references,  clarifying  language,  and deleting obsolete or
         unnecessary provisions.
SB 680   RELATING TO FIREWORKS.                                          JHA,FIN
SD1      After January 2, 2000, prohibits the import, sale, and use of fireworks
         unless permitted by county  ordinance  except for religious or cultural
         purposes and public  display;  eliminates  the licensing and permitting
         for the import, sale, and use of fireworks.
