WHEREAS, Queen Lili`uokalani, the last monarch of Hawai`i,
was a strong ruler who was much beloved by her people; and

WHEREAS, she stepped down from the throne rather than have
her people subject to the threat of violence from American
troops assisting in the overthrow; and

`Iolani Palace, the former royal palace; and

WHEREAS, in 1975, the State Legislature, recognizing the
important role of the Queen in the rich heritage of Hawai`i,

Lili`uokalani" to be placed on permanent display at the State
  Capitol; and

WHEREAS, a more fitting place for this beloved statue is

in which she was imprisoned; now, therefore,
