                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE FORTY-SEVENTH ANNUAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL AND
   CONGRATULATING LORI SHIZUKO MURAYAMA AS THE 1999 CHERRY
   BLOSSOM QUEEN, MEMBERS OF HER COURT, AND FESTIVAL
   ORGANIZERS.



 1       WHEREAS, on Saturday, March 20, 1999, LORI SHIZUKO MURAYAMA
 2   was chosen the 1999 Cherry Blossom Queen of the 47th Annual
 3   Cherry Blossom Festival, sponsored by the Honolulu Japanese
 4   Junior Chamber of Commerce; and 
 5   
 6       WHEREAS, LORI SHIZUKO MURAYAMA, a 1992 graduate of Mid-
 7   Pacific Institute, earned a bachelors degree from the
 8   University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1998, is a volunteer at
 9   various community organizations, and plans to go to medical
10   school in the future; and
11   
12       WHEREAS, LORI SHIZUKO MURAYAMA possesses the timeless yet
13   fragile beauty of the cherry blossom, appreciates and respects
14   the values of her culture, and honors her parents and her
15   heritage; and
16   
17       WHEREAS, the Queen is honored to have, as members of her
18   Court, First Princess and Miss Congeniality DORI KIYOMI TAKATA,
19   Princess JANICE MASAKO NAKATANI, Princess JENNIFER MIKI OYAMA,
20   Princess ALISON FUMIKO TASAKA, and Miss Popularity TARYN KEIKO
21   MATSUDA; and 
22   
23       WHEREAS, the Cherry Blossom Festival, one of the oldest,
24   ethnic celebrations in Hawaii, serves to illuminate, enlighten,
25   and enrich various aspects of the Japanese culture and
26   culminates in the coronation of the Queen and her Court, and
27   this year, was successfully guided by the Forty-Eighth Honolulu
28   Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce President Keith Kamisugi
29   and the Forty-Seventh Annual Cherry Blossom Festival General
30   Co-Chairs Pono Chong and Karlton Tomomitsu; now, therefore,
31   
32       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
33   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
34   of 1999, that this body hereby recognizes the Forty-Seventh
35   Annual Cherry Blossom Festival; congratulates LORI SHIZUKO
36   MURAYAMA as the 1999 Cherry Blossom Queen, members of her

 1   court, other contestants with achieved distinctions, and
 2   festival organizers; and extends to them its warmest aloha and
 3   best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
