                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION
  REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR AND THE LEGISLATURE TO CONVENE A
    WORLDWIDE CONVENTION ON HAWAI`I'S NEXT MILLENNIUM.
 


 1        WHEREAS, the coming millennium is an appropriate time for
 2   the State to reflect and plan for the future; and
 3   
 4        WHEREAS, it would assist the state planning process to
 5   have long-range goals for the future, which would serve as a
 6   guides for short and medium range programs and projects; and
 7   
 8        WHEREAS, the executive and legislative branches should
 9   work together with residents to determine what we are doing
10   right, where we have gone off course, and what new goals we
11   should aim for in the future; and
12   
13        WHEREAS, the Governor and the Legislature should convene a
14   convention that would bring together Hawai`i residents, former
15   Hawai`i residents, Hawai`i-born people now living outside the
16   State, and native Hawaiians and part-Hawaiians living in other
17   parts of the world, and would bring together a wide spectrum of
18   experiences, opinions, plans, and hope for the future of
19   Hawai`i for the next decade, century, and millennium; now,
20   therefore,
21   
22        BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
23   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
24   of 1999, that this body requests the Governor to join with it
25   in convening a convention on October 25-29, 1999 at the
26   Convention Center, on Hawai`i's next millennium, to include
27   invited representatives from current residents in all walks of
28   life as well as the best and the brightest of those former
29   Hawai`i residents or people of Hawaiian blood living outside
30   the State; and
31   
32        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Business,
33   Economic Development, and Tourism, the Hawaii Visitors and
34   Convention Bureau, the University of Hawaii system, the
35   Department of Education, county governments, and the business
36   community are requested to be partners in establishing the
37   convention and participate by sending representatives to the
38   convention; and

 1        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that funding for the convention
 2   should be sought through foundation and corporate sponsorship;
 3   and
 4   
 5        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this
 6   Resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
