                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE YOUTH LEGISLATURE OF THE YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN
   ASSOCIATION (YMCA)YOUTH GOVERNMENT PROGRAM ON ITS FIFTIETH
   ANNIVERSARY.



 1       WHEREAS, since its inception fifty years ago, the Hawaii
 2   YMCA's Youth Government Program has prepared high school
 3   students for moral and political leadership through practical
 4   experiences, providing Hawaii's student legislators with
 5   opportunities to think problems through, study and debate
 6   public issues, and write legislation; and 
 7   
 8       WHEREAS, these students participate in the YOUTH
 9   LEGISLATURE, a model state government, in which they engage in
10   meetings and conferences, and discover, through firsthand
11   experience, how to make changes for the betterment of the
12   people of Hawaii; and
13   
14       WHEREAS, former participants of Hawaii's YOUTH
15   LEGISLATURE's include: Four-Star General Eric Shinseki; Lt.
16   Governor Mazie Hirono, Representatives Dennis Arakaki, and Nobu
17   Yonamine, and many other State Officials, now, therefore
18   
19       BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
20   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
21   of 1999, that this body hereby congratulates the YMCA Youth
22   Government Program's YOUTH LEGISLATURE for fifty years of
23   developing leadership and social responsibility in Hawaii's
24   youth, and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for
25   continued success in all future endeavors.
