                   A BILL FOR AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR RADFORD HIGH SCHOOL.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that, after many years of

hard and continuous use, the wrestling mat at Radford high school

has deteriorated to the point where it constitutes a health and

safety hazard to athletes on the home team and on visiting teams.

Cracks on the surface of the mat can harbor staphylococcal

bacteria, which can cause serious skin infections such as

impetigo contagiosa, and cause physical injuries to wrestlers.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to the department

of education for fiscal year 1999-2000 to purchase a replacement

wrestling mat for Radford high school.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general

revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $11,000, or so much

thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 1999-2000, for

Radford high school to purchase a replacement wrestling mat;

provided that the mat shall be not less than 1.25 inches thick

and forty feet by forty-eight feet in size, with ten foot by

thirty foot high school markings.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the

department of education for the purposes of this Act.
