                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PERTAINING TO PUBLIC SAFETY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  The following sums, or so much thereof as shall
 
 2 be sufficient to finance the projects listed in this Act, are
 
 3 hereby appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of
 
 4 Hawaii for fiscal year 1999-2000.
 
 5      To be expended by the department of accounting and general
 
 6 services:
 
 7      A.  Halawa medium security medical facility, Oahu
 
 8          Equipment for the installation of a fourteen-camera
 
 9          video monitoring system to provide surveillance of
 
10          inmates undergoing psychiatric care or suicide watch.
 
11          Equipment                                        $50,000
 
12          Total funding                                    $50,000
 
13      B.  Halawa high security facility, Oahu
 
14          Design and construction for the installation of a new
 
15          fireline and a fire sprinkler system in blocks "A", "B",
 
16          "C", and special holding.
 
17          Design                                          $ 52,000
 
18          Construction                                    $675,000
 
19          Total funding                                   $727,000

 1      C.  Kulani correctional facility, Hawaii
 
 2          Design and construction for the installation of a new
 
 3          fireline, a fire sprinkler system in all housing units,
 
 4          and hot water heaters in shower rooms.

 8      D.  Oahu community correctional center, Oahu
 
 9          Design and construction for the replacement of existing
 
10          underground storage tanks and modification of existing
 
11          fuel systems to meet current Environmental Protection
 
12          Agency regulations.

14          Construction                                    $286,000
 
15          Total funding                                   $311,000
 
16      E.  Maui community correctional center, Maui
 
17          Design for the renovation and expansion of the medium
 
18          security housing unit, inmate activity area, staff
 
19          services, and administrative buildings.
 
20          Design                                          $150,000
 
21          Total funding                                    150,000
 
22      SECTION 2.  The sums appropriated for the respective capital
 
23 projects set forth in section 1 shall be expended by the
 
24 designated expending agency for the purposes of this Act.
