Part I
The purpose of this informational briefing is to obtain information regarding potential impacts on the community resulting from anticipated operational changes at the Kulani Correctional Facility, a 160-bed minimum-security prison that incorporates vocational training and specialized programming for male inmates nearing the end of their sentences. These changes would come as the result of Governor Linda Lingle’s announced intention to reduce staffing and possibly close the facility.

The purpose of this informational briefing is to gather information relating to the potential impacts on the community and agricultural industry on the Big Island of Hawai‘i, arising from the anticipated reduction and possible elimination of the plant quarantine branch on the Big Island. The reduction of station staffing and the consequent potential elimination of the branch would come as the result of Governor Linda Lingle’s announced intention to lay off branch staff.
