Allows special number plates for military service for more than one noncommercial passenger vehicle or motorcycle or motor scooter. (Kawamoto)

RELATING TO VEHICLE REGISTRATION.

Defines "vehicle identification number" in chapter 286, HRS, to mean either the federal vehicle identification number or a number assigned by the county director of finance to a custom vehicle. (Kawamoto, Matsuura)

RELATING TO DRIVER LICENSES.

Authorizes the examiner of drivers to examine applicants whose instruction permits have expired without requiring an additional 90-day period if they have received a new permit within 30 days of the expiration of their previous permit. (Kawamoto)

RELATING TO DRIVER LICENSES.

Allows acceptance of an application for renewal of an instruction permit not more than 30 days prior to the expiration date. Exempts applicant from re-examination of understanding and knowledge of highway and traffic laws, signs, etc. (Kawamoto)

RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE TRANSFERS.

Requires director of finance to notify seller when purchaser of a motor vehicle has registered the vehicle. (Kawamoto)

Amends law to require heavy commercial vehicles to be inspected once every year, rather than every six months. (Kawamoto)

RELATING TO DRIVER LICENSE RENEWAL BY MAIL.

Enables persons seeking to renew their driver's license who either live out of State or whose license has expired to renew their driver's license without having to take the practical (road) test. (Kawamoto)

DECISION MAKING TO FOLLOW, IF TIME PERMITS.

Persons wishing to testify should submit 45 copies of their testimony to the committee clerk, Room 230, State Capitol 24 hours prior to the hearing. Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for the disabled) please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

Public Folder. A folder labeled "Public Folder" containing the measures and testimonies for the hearing will be available for shared use by members of the public.
