RELATING TO PUBLIC EMPLOYEE BENEFITS. Enables retired members of the Employees' Retirement System who return to active service to participate in the State's Deferred Compensation Plan. (KIM, Chumbley, Matsuura, Hemmings, Sakamoto, Ige, Tam, Kanno, English, Inouye, Kawamoto)

RELATING TO PENSION AND RETIREMENT SYSTEMS. Provides that if a firefighter retires because of a service-connected disability pursuant to section 88-79 and the former firefighter subsequently returns to service in any position other than a firefighter, the member's retirement allowance shall be two and one-half per cent of the member's average final compensation for each year of credited service as a firefighter. RELATING TO THE EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM. Requires that the Employees' Retirement System invest an unspecified percentage of its investment portfolio in economically targeted investments and intellectual property. (ENGLISH)

RELATING TO LEAVES OF ABSENCE. Provides that a written designation of beneficiary for earned and unpaid wages is void if the beneficiary predeceases the employee, if employee and beneficiary divorce, if unmarried employee subsequently marries, or if employee enters into or terminates a reciprocal beneficiary relationship. Persons wishing to testify should submit 35 copies of their testimony to the committee clerk, Room 231, State Capitol, 24 hours prior to the hearing. Testimony may also be faxed if less than five (5) pages in length to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll-free for neighbor islands) at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.
