RELATING TO CRIMINAL PROCEDURE

Prohibits deferred acceptance of guilty and nolo contendere pleas for assault third convictions involving family or household members.

RELATING TO AWARDING CUSTODY AND VISITATION

Requires written order with reasons for decision in awarding custody to person against whom there is evidence of family violence.

RELATING TO DOMESTIC ABUSE PROTECTIVE ORDERS

Authorizes dismissal without hearing of certain applications to modify terms of existing protective orders. (KANNO, MATSUURA)

RELATING TO COURTS

Requires judges who handle family law and domestic abuse cases to undergo education in subjects relevant to issues and problems unique to those cases; appropriates funds to implement the program.

RELATING TO PROTECTIVE ORDER

Amends period protective order may be extended from three years to a period the court deems appropriate. (KANNO, Matsuura)
