RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLE INSURANCE.

Establishes a computer database for insured motor vehicles. Authorizes license revocation and license plate confiscation for uninsured vehicles.

RELATING TO TOBACCO PRODUCTS.

Creates statewide licensure mechanism for retail tobacco sales that provides for licensing retail tobacco vendors, inspections and enforcement, adjudication of fines and penalties, training and education for retail merchants and public awareness of the State's statute governing the sale of tobacco to minors.

SB 483

relating to restraint of trade.

Clarifies that attorneys fees and costs may not be awarded to the plaintiff in an unfair trade practice suit brought by the State or a county; allows threefold compensatory damages for injuries sustained to property from unfair or deceptive trade practices; requires that consent decrees entered into before the filing of an action do not become final until 60 days from the filing of the consent judgment or decree or until final determination of exceptions.

Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing, and the required number of copies needed for submittal.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for the disabled) please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.
